Sonora, CA, snow days. Ah, yes. I’ve thought about this post for years now. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: It’s not that I don’t have material to put up on the blog. I have hard drives full of interesting images. …It’s just that my time is occupied elsewhere and the poor blog falls by the wayside–and before I know it, years have passed since I photographed the subject. Photographer Tamara Lackey says that she could spend all day creating a blog post. And it’s true. Blog posts just take such a long time. If I could, I’d hire someone to do my blog posts for me. For sure.
So. Here I am in Texas. In the summer. And that means 100+ degree weather. Whew! But, never fear. We’re about to revisit cooler moments in my life.
Back in 2009, Jon & I lived off of Green Meadow Lane in Sonora, CA. What a pretty place it was. Situated in a green meadow (certainly lived up to it’s street name) surrounded by trees and very little traffic, it was a quiet, relaxing place. I spent weeks by myself with mostly just the outdoors and our golden retriever, Max (who’d developed cancer by that time but was still as happy as can be. See his story here & here.) Jon was away most days for 10 hours or more while he attended ARISE, an evangelistic training school, then located in Sonora, CA. Internet access wasn’t available at the home, cell coverage was constantly roaming since the closest tower was almost an hour away. So, most of the time it was just me, Maxie, the outdoors and my camera. Oh, and my imagination. Which I totally have.
Which brings me to my old friend Melvin the Snowman. Yep. I was like Tom Hanks on Castaway, creating my own friends from inanimate objects.
We adults get too serious. Come join me and my sweet friend Melvin.

Yep. I created my own somebody to love. Just look at that sweet face and those blushing cheeks. Ha!

Good ole Maxie-poo bonding with our newly created friend. Max is clearly very interested in Melvin.
